Mining Verium Coin On Raspberry Pi?!?

Mining Verium Coin On Raspberry Pi?!?

Yes you can do Verium Mining  (a crypto-currency) on a Raspberry Pi! The wallet that can be used with this coin has POS(Proof of stake) which means you gain coins passively. Profitability? We shall talk about that later in the post.

Things needed:

  • Raspberry Pi 3 or later
  • Wifi dongle or using  inbuilt wifi
  • Raspbian Stretch
  • Internet connection
  • 8GB Micro-SD card or more
  • Heat sinks/Fan

Downloading Verium Miner Image

  1. Get the image from: Click the VERIUM MINER Image
  2. Download Etcher
  3. Plug the Micro-SD card into your computer and use etcher to flash the image onto the SD card.
  4. Plug your SD card, HDMI cable and power supply into your Raspberry Pi and wait for a couple of minutes.

Setting Up Wifi

  1. You need to know your wifi SSID (The name of your wifi network) and your wifi password.
  2. In the command line interface, type:
    sudo nano /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
  3. Scroll to the bottom and type:
    network={
        ssid="testing"
        psk="testingPassword"
    }
  4. Replace testing with your wifi SSID and testingPassword with your wifi password.
  5. Reboot your Pi sudo reboot
  6. ping google.com If you get an error when using this command, you have not configured your wifi properly. Control + C to stop the ping.

Registering With A Verium Mining Pool

  1. Navigate to the Beertendr pool in a web browser
  2. Create an account.
  3. Navigate to “My Account” then click on “My Workers”
  4. Create a new worker, keep in mind that you will need to remember your worker name and password.
  5. On you RPi type:
    sudo nano /etc/rc.local
  6.  Change stratum+tcp://yourpool.com:3334 to stratum+tcp://stratum.beertendr.com:3334
  7. And change your_user.worker:password to your workers id and password for example:  john.work01:Passw0rd
  8. Control + X to exit, Y for yes to save, then press enter.
  9. To see if it working: cd
  10. ./vrmcheck.sh
  11. You should see something like “accepted”.

Is mining profitable on a Raspberry Pi?

At the moment, no it is not. At the time of making this tutorial, the price per Verium coin was 0.55235404 USD. Mining for one day on a Raspberry Pi 3 gave me around 0.035VRM coins per day. This is about $0.0193323914/day. Running a Raspberry Pi 3B 24/7 costs about £5/year.  With a Raspberry Pi after price conversion, you make £5.55/year. There is only a 55 pence profit? No not even a 55 pence profit, if you  bought a Raspberry Pi right now at £30 to mine Verium, it would take 55 years to earn that money back. Do you expect your Raspberry Pi to last that long? That’s over half your lifetime!
